Fall Prep: Because it ain’t just football going on outside!

Fall Prep2We’re gearing up for colder weather in a few! So what are you going to do about it?

All of our bodies react to cooler temperatures differently, and sometimes NOT knowing how to prep for lower temperatures can do more harm than good!

Here’s my favorite tip– The weather is cool, and so is your body.  The best way to prep your skin to handle this colder weather (especially your scalp) is to finish your shower with a cold water rinse (See Post: Cold Water)Cold water brings your skin back into balance, allowing your scalp to produce the necessary oils (sebum) to naturally moisturize itself and thereby help prevent dry scalp.

Here are a few others that can make your grooming regimen so much better for this weather transition..!

Moisturize your “whole” body – come on guys, it not just for women.  Your body needs the added protection to prevent drying out, especially in colder weather.  Ever have chapped lips?  Well, the same can happen to your body!

Shave and protect – by now, you know that a layer of skin is removed every time you shave.  So, after you shave, make sure you have an aftershave lotion and a moisturizer handy.  This combination is always important, and, even more so as we approach winter.

Save on your water bill – here’s how.  Change your long hot showers into short warm ones.  The longer and hotter the shower, the more natural oils are being stripped from your skin.  That squeaky clean feeling after a hot shower feels good, but it puts pressure on your body moisturizer to provide double protection, since those natural oils aren’t there to help.

Now you know…!

    Great, concise piece Craig!
Many guys really do need to ditch the long held notion that ‘moisturising is for women’ – because the simple truth of the matter is, it’s NOT. Us chaps need to take care of our skin too and by far the best way to do that is to put the moisture back – and then let nature do the rest!

I think that a lot of men take short cuts when it comes to moisturizing their whole body, only the exposed areas. That’s why we are embarrassed when our pant legs have to go above our socks because you know the legs are gonna be a dry. Perfect post for the upcoming cold weather.
