Grooming Myths… Answered!

GROOMING MYTHS2

I get questions from my clients all the time that seem to always fall back on these common grooming myths. So here are the REAL answers!

———————————————

If you shave it, it grows back faster – FALSE

– The practice of shaving an area, any area, in hopes of speeding up the hair growth process is purely a myth. You see, genetics plays a major part in determining if you will “finally” be able to sport a full goatee, and even that can take several years to reveal itself.
Many physically mature guys don’t finish developing a full adult beard until their early 20′s or even later.

The more blades the better – FALSE

– Purchased the new 10-blade razor yet? No? Ok good! The idea that the more blades used to shave the face is better is simply not true. Getting a close shave is all based on proper shaving preparation and good technique. Besides, if I can give you a close and comfortable shave with a single blade straight razor, then who’s anyone kidding?

Shaving against the grain can cause ingrown hairs – TRUE

– Shaving against the grain may give you the closest shave ever. But for men who struggle with ingrown hairs this is a step that should be skipped.
– Shaving against the grain cuts the hair so short that it falls below the skin-line. When this occurs, the hair has a difficult time growing out of the skin and it curls underneath the surface causing an ingrown hair.

Ingrown hair remedy – Crushed aspirin – TRUE

Ran out of your quick remedy ingrown hair product? No need to fret! One of the active ingredients in these popular ingrown hair products is aspirin. Aspirin contains salicylic acid, a powerful exfoliator to slough off dead skin cells- allowing the ingrown hair to release.

Wearing hats cause hairline hair-loss – FALSE

– Of course not! Many have come to this false conclusion because of the temporary mark or crease that sometimes results around the head from where the hat has rested. Rest assured, the only way for any significant damage to take place is to wear the hat so tightly
AND for so many hours, that circulation is cut off to the hair’s follicles.
– How many of you would consider purchasing, let alone wearing, a hat that would cause this much discomfort? Yeah, me either!

Gray hairs multiply when plucked – FALSE

– Pluck away my friend! Hair has color because cells in our hair follicles called melanocytes create pigment (color) in the hair. When these cells stop producing the pigment, the hair loses its color.
Plucking out one gray hair will not affect the melanocytes in the other hair follicles, so other hairs will not turn gray as a result. In most cases, gray hair will occur as a result of age or a medical condition.

Enjoy your site and articles very much. What kind of shaving instrument do you recommend for shaving chest and other body hair.

Thank you so much. I will definitely purchase one. I am pretty hairy and this will safe money on the body hair trims that I get every three months.
