Anti-Manicure? These 3 DIY Steps Will Leave Your Fingers Looking Good

TMR-Mens-DIY-ManicurePOSTI know a lot of guys who will never get a manicure, even though they recognize the importance of neat and clean nails. Some avoid it because they just can’t stomach the thought of the process while others just don’t have it in the budget.

Alright, maybe you are still struggling with the feminine connotations associated with getting a manicure, understood.  Even though a professional manicure is relaxing and takes the guess work out of doing it yourself, we’re all trying to stretch our dollar a little further these days. So, for now, let’s keep it simple.  Here’s what you need to keep those fingers looking good without spending a dime at the nail shop.

Tools:

Nail Clipper – choose your desired length, keeping the white of your fingernails no longer than 2 millimeters.  Too long and you’ll be ready for your Halloween “pimp” outfit, too short and you’ll be wearing band-aids for fingertips.

Emery Board – after your nails are clipped they will still have a rugged appearance, so use one of these to smooth off those jagged edges .

Nail Buffer – I know, you don’t want them “shiny,” or maybe you do!  Choose the side for your preferred finish and it’ll give your nails a more uniform and natural look.

There you have it!  In less than 15 minutes your nails will look great, and that special someone will be happier for it!

Any advice on how to clean your own personal nail tools(clippers, files, implements) and tweezers?

Sure! Pick up a small bottle of Barbicide along with the smallest mixture container and follow the water mixture instructions on the bottle. This is perfect for keeping these items clean.

How often do I have the change the solution if it’s only for my personal use?

Every 3-4 weeks should be fine since it’s just you using it.

Are disinfecting trays better then jars? I’m thinking that maybe leaving scissors and tweezers upside down in the jars might dull the tip?

Hi Alex, disinfecting your tools should take approx. 3 mins in the jar. After that you can rinse and store them in a clean & dry place. No need to worry about dulling them. Great question!
